Indonesia H1 coal output at 357.6 million metric tons

Indonesia produced 357.6 million metric tons of coal from January to June this year, with 238 million tons exported over the same period, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry data showed on Monday.

The government has set a coal production target of 739.7 million tons this year, the data showed.

Indonesia’s coal production often exceeds government targets. It produced 836 million tons of coal in 2024, higher than the 710 million ton target for the year.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia reiterated that the government will cut mining quotas from three years to one year, a reversion to their previous length to help control supply and prop up prices amid slowing global demand.

“When the price is good, the state will receive good revenue and the miners will too,” he told reporters.
