The International Propeller Club Norway (IPC) has officially established its Norwegian branch and held its first industry event last week. The event focused on dialogue and solutions to “Maritime Security in a Changing Industry Landscape.” Speakers from Kystrederiene and DNK highlighted regulatory revisions, geopolitical risks, and real-world security challenges.
IPC Norway was launched at Nor-Shipping in June this year and its industry events underscore its mission to strengthen collaboration across the country’s maritime community. The Club’s vision is to build a diverse local network while deepening ties with more than 80 Propeller Club Ports worldwide. Enhancing cooperation and trade at a time of rapid regulatory, geopolitical, digital and environmental change.
Freddy Furulund, representing DNK, underlined the urgency of the discussion:“The geopolitical risks we face at sea are no longer distant or theoretical, they are real and evolving daily. Forums like the Propeller Club give us a place to share insights openly and prepare for challenges together as an industry.”
The event demonstrated the Club’s ability to bridge silos within the maritime ecosystem. Legal experts, owners, operators, financial advisors, and insurers left with a clearer understanding of each other’s challenges. Participants also praised the Club for creating a professional yet informal setting that encouraged frank dialogue.
Looking ahead, the Propeller Club of Norway will focus on building annual and regional and international gatherings, hosting seminars and technical briefings, and launching a digital exchange platform to keep knowledge flowing.
Dr. Sinem Ogis, President and Founder of the Propeller Club of Norway, commented: “The Propeller Club offers a common platform where maritime stakeholders can engage in meaningful dialogue and build lasting business connections with trade at heart. Last week’s event highlights the benefits of sharing specific industry expertise. Norway’s shipping sector has much to gain from strengthening cooperation and international engagement.”
Founded in 1922 in New York, the International Propeller Club is a global networking platform connecting professionals across shipping, offshore, ports, energy, finance, law, and technology. The Norwegian arm is building on this legacy by creating a national arena for dialogue and knowledge sharing, with regional committees in Stavanger, Bergen, Haugesund, and Oslo, and a strategy to expand further in the years to come.
