Trump says global investors funnel billions into US shipyards

U.S. President Donald Trump said that he would revive shipyards “through hundreds of billions of dollars in investment and manpower coming in from around the world.”

Trump said this in a speech at the Navy’s 250th anniversary ceremony held at the Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia that day, noting, “They will build ships in the United States.”

Trump appears to have made the remarks with the “MASGA (Make American Shipbuilding Great Again) project” proposed by Korea during trade talks with the United States in mind. Korea plans to create a $150 billion (about 210 trillion won) fund for a Korea-U.S. shipbuilding cooperation project.

Trump said, “We are designing more vessels, and more vessels are under construction than at any time in U.S. Navy history.”
