HJ Shipbuilding & Construction forecasts smooth second half as orders and finances improve

HJ Shipbuilding & Construction said on the 15th that it will continue strong performance in the second half by winning orders for eco-friendly, high value-added ships and entering the U.S. Navy maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO; Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul) business.

HJ Shipbuilding & Construction won an order in Jul. for one 18,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas (LNG; Liquefied Natural Gas) bunkering vessel from H-Line Shipping, and in Sep. signed a contract with an Oceania shipowner to build four 8,850-TEU (1 TEU = one 20-foot container) eco-friendly container ships worth 640 billion won.

HJ Shipbuilding & Construction is planning to secure technology and supply chains through an MRO business consultative body with companies in the Busan and South Gyeongsang regions. The company expects to conclude a master ship repair agreement (MSRA) with the U.S. government as early as Nov.

A HJ Shipbuilding & Construction official said, “As of the first half, we recorded an order backlog of 8.8 trillion won. We plan to strengthen competitiveness by leveraging improvements in the financial structure, eco-friendly ship orders, and investments in MRO and defense.”
