Pilbara Ports yesterday launched its inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation and to building strong, respectful and lasting relationships with First Nations people.

Launched at a stakeholder event in Port Hedland, the Reflect RAP (August 2025 – December 2026) provides a clear framework to guide reconciliation initiatives within the workplace and across port communities, laying the foundation for future RAPs.

The launch event brought together Pilbara Ports Board, employees, Traditional Custodians and community members and included a Welcome to Country followed by light refreshments and a celebratory cake.

Pilbara Ports Chief Executive Officer Samuel McSkimming said the Reflect RAP represented an important step forward in Pilbara Ports reconciliation journey.

“Our Reflect RAP is an opportunity for us to listen, learn and take meaningful steps towards reconciliation in our workplace,” he said.

“This plan ensures reconciliation is embedded at the heart of Pilbara Ports operations – through our people, partnerships and shared respect for the communities we serve.

“We’re proud to take this first step, acknowledging that reconciliation is an ongoing journey – one that requires reflection, action and unity.”

Through the Reflect RAP, Pilbara Ports is committed to deepening its understanding of First Nations cultures and histories, while fostering opportunities for greater collaboration, employment and economic participation across the wider Pilbara region.

The plan outlines practical initiatives including increasing First Nations employment opportunities, partnering with First Nations businesses, celebrating culture and heritage, and embedding cultural understanding across the organisation. Additionally, this RAP will contribute towards the five dimensions of reconciliation: race relations; equality and equity; institutional integrity; unity; and historical acceptance.

Pilbara Ports will work closely with Reconciliation Australia, employees, Traditional Custodians and local communities to deliver measurable outcomes including continued support for initiatives such as NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week.

By launching the Reflect RAP, Pilbara Ports joins a national network of more than 3,000 corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations committed to reconciliation.
