HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Secures 435.3 Billion Won Container Ship Order

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on the 10th that it recently signed a contract with the global shipping company ‘Regional Container Line’ to build two container ships. The contract is valued at a total of 435.3 billion Korean won.

‘Regional Container Line’ is a container shipping company ranked 21st globally by operational capacity. This is the first time it has signed a construction contract with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. Cooperation between the two companies is expected to expand following this agreement.

The ships secured in this order are 13,800 TEU-class vessels (1 TEU equals one 20-foot container), measuring 337 meters in length, 51 meters in width, and 27.3 meters in height. They will also be equipped with scrubbers, a type of exhaust gas reduction device. The ships will be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard in Ulsan and delivered sequentially by October 2028.

Including this latest order, HD Hyundai has secured contracts for 61 container ships this year. This marks more than double the 28 ships ordered last year and the 29 ships in 2023. Industry experts anticipate that trade flows will remain robust amid the global tariff environment, with emerging market trade expected to grow in the long term.

A representative from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries stated, “Orders continue to follow in the container ship sector, where robust demand persists, driven by our eco-friendly technological capabilities and stable quality management.”
