Iskra Shipyard Šibenik Signs Contract for Construction of a New Hybrid Floating Dock, 110 Meters Long and with a Capacity of 4,000 Tons

The contract for the construction of a floating dock for Iskra Shipyard Šibenik,110-meter-long and 4,000-ton capacity , was signed today in Varna, Bulgaria, by Roko Vuletić, CEO of the shipyard, and Danail Slavov, General Director of TEREM – Shipyard Flotski Arsenal – Varna, which has been entrusted with building the dock. This is the largest investment from the strategic investment plan worth more than €30 million, announced by the Šibenik shipyard after the Croatian Government recently extended its maritime concession until 2054. Once operational, the dock will enable Iskra Shipyard to cover a segment it previously did not have – overhauling almost all Jadrolinija vessels and building yachts longer than 70 meters, and new corvettes to be built for the Croatian Navy.

The project was designed by Norden Shipdesign House from Turkey and involves the construction of an innovative hybrid floating dock. The dock is designed as a concrete
pontoon consisting of seven sections, with double-hull steel side towers. This hybrid design combines the durability and longevity of concrete with the flexibility and functionality of steel superstructures, ensuring high efficiency and optimized maintenance costs. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with commissioning expected in spring 2027.

Statement by Roko Vuletić:

Signing this contract is an important step for Iskra Shipyard in continuing the development of our Šibenik location into a unique, modern, and environmentally friendly shipbuilding and repair center of excellence in the Mediterranean. The project is an excellent example of a hybrid dock that combines the best of steel and concrete technology. With its modular structure, hybrid energy system, and focus on operational efficiency, it will set a completely new standard for ship repair and maintenance infrastructure in the region. The dock will be a key element in the future development of shipbuilding and repair capacities, expanding our service capabilities for a wide range of vessels we have not serviced before. Statement by Danail Slavov:

For us at Flotski Arsenal, this project is a sign of trust and recognition of our team’s professionalism. With the new dock, we will significantly increase our ship repair capacities and contribute to positioning Varna as a leading maritime industry center in the Black Sea region.

Statement by Özer Kaymak:

Flexy Hybrid Dock is a powerful example of how engineering excellence and sustainability can go hand in hand. Our collaboration with Iskra Shipyard Šibenik and Terem Shipyard Varna reflects a shared vision of a smarter, cleaner, and more efficient maritime future.
