Baltic Dry Index Rally Continues

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, extended its upward trend into a 15th straight day on Wednesday, soaring 9.4% to a new peak since December 2023 at 2,845 points.

The index also recorded its strongest daily rise since October 13.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, jumped 16.3% to a fresh high since December 2023 at 5,384 points.

At the same time, the supramax index added 3 points to 1,444 points.

On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, retreated for the fifth session, falling about 1.2% to 1,892 points.
