Orkney Seeks Design-and-Build Partner for New Ferries

The Delaware River and Bay Authority has awarded a US $78.6m contract to SENESCO Marine for a new 75-car diesel-hybrid ferry for the Cape May – Lewes route.

The vessel will replace the over 40-year-old CAPE HENLOPEN.

The hybrid ferry will cut fuel consumption by 35% and deliver major annual emission reductions, including 2,025 tonnes of CO₂. It will operate with zero emissions in port.

Construction is expected to begin early next year, with delivery planned for summer 2029.

The project includes $20m in federal funding.
