Amnesty International Urges Nations To Block German Ship Carrying Military Components To Israel

Amnesty International called on nations to prevent a German-owned cargo ship loaded with military components destined for Israel from docking at their ports.

It added that if a government allows the ship to berth at its facility, it will also be a contributor to genocide and other serious crimes under international law, per reports.

Holger G is a Portuguese-flagged ship and is loaded with 440 tonnes of mortar bomb parts, military-grade steel and projectiles.

Per Amnesty International, the cargo is for Israeli defence companies like Elbit Systems and others, which provide massive quantities of weapons to the Israeli Military.

Amnesty added that it had verified that the vessel is transporting metal alloys used in artillery shells and also items that could be used in rockets and missiles.

The ship left India on November 16, 2025 and is sailing towards the Israeli Port of Haifa, where the cargo is to be unloaded.

Erika Guevara Rosas, Amnesty International’s senior director for research, advocacy, policy and campaigns, said that the cargo must not reach Israel as it would contribute to genocide and other crimes against Palestinians.

She added that Israel has continued its genocide against the people of Gaza and maintained an unlawful occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and enforced a system of apartheid against all Palestinians whose rights have been violated.

Nations that continue to do business with Israel are complicit in genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, she said.

Amnesty has urged governments to impose an arms embargo on Israel and refuse authorisation for the transit of arms.

It also critisied german shipping company Reederei Gerdes, saying that it must ensure o not contribute to violations of international humanitarian law.

States facilitating arms transfer to Israel are breaching the Geneva Conventions and the Arms Trade Treaty, as well as guidance issued by the International Court of Justice in July 2024.
