DP World Evyap has taken delivery of three new remote-controlled quay cranes at its Körfez terminal in Türkiye. The cranes were shipped from Shanghai and are now in service following commissioning, supporting DP World’s programme to modernise quayside operations, enhance safety and improve productivity.
The cranes are operated remotely from modern control centres rather than on-site, creating a safer and more comfortable working environment for employees while reducing exposure to high-risk areas and supporting more consistent operations.

The cranes are equipped with advanced collision avoidance sensors, providing an additional layer of protection for terminal employees. Integrating remote-controlled cranes also reduces the number of pedestrians in the terminal area, easing terminal traffic and improving safety for staff operating inside the port.

Alongside the safety improvements, the new cranes support DP World Evyap’s objective to enhance speed and efficiency across its operations. The cranes will increase operational capacity at the Körfez terminal, helping ensure more reliable service for customers and supporting a more efficient flow of trade. With the introduction of these three new cranes, the terminal is expected to reach its current capacity of 800,000 TEU per year.
In 2023, DP World Yarımca became the first port in the country to integrate remote-controlled electrified cranes as part of its ‘Zero Tolerance’ safety project. The experience gained at Yarımca is now being applied at Körfez.
DP World’s investment comes amid rapid growth in its Turkish operations. In December, DP World Evyap marked a major operational milestone by handling its one millionth twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) in 2025 at the Körfez and Yarımca terminals, underscoring the impact of its investments to enhance performance. Operations at the terminals now also include project and heavy-lift cargo handling.
Kris Adams, Executive Vice President, Eastern Europe at DP World, said: “Safety is, and always will be, our number one priority. The deployment of remote-controlled cranes at our Körfez terminal is a clear example of how investing in technology allows us to create safer working environments for our people, while also increasing operational capacity to support the strong growth of our business in Türkiye. This approach not only protects our teams on the ground, but also ensures more stable and predictable operations. Our operations here show how safety and efficiency go hand in hand – when we reduce exposure to risk, we strengthen reliability, continuity and performance for our customers.”
Cosmin Carstea, CEO of DP World Evyap, said: “DP World Evyap is a highly modern business that has already achieved outstanding success. Introducing the remote-controlled crane technology that we have successfully utilised at DP World Evyap’s Yarımca Terminal at our Körfez Terminal ensures the same standards across both terminals. The remote-controlled cranes will significantly reduce workplace safety risks while simultaneously enhancing the speed and capacity of our operations.”
