Greek shipowner Alpha Gas has confirmed it has ordered a pair of LNG carrier newbuildings in South Korea.

The shipowner didn’t disclose the name of the shipbuilder in its statement on Wednesday, January 21.

The two LNG carriers are scheduled for delivery in 2029.

“We are pleased to announce that Alpha Gas has placed an order for two state‑of‑the‑art LNG carriers, which will feature the latest energy‑efficient technologies, to be built in South Korea and scheduled for delivery in 2029,” the company wrote in a release.

South Korea’s shipyard Hanwha Ocean has disclosed that it has received an order for two LNG carriers. The shipbuilder did not name on Wednesday the contracting party, simply describing them as “an Oceania region shipowner.”

The contracting period starts on January 20, 2026, and ends on June 29, 2029.

It’s worth mentioning that the ship management company specializing in the management and operation of LNG vessels placed an order in Hanwha Ocean for a VLGC/VLAC vessel, built in 2026 and a VLGC/VLAC vessel, built in 2027. Also, it placed orders in Hyundai Heavy Industries for a VLGC/VLAC vessel, built in 2026 and a VLGC/VLAC vessel, built in 2027.

Shipping Telegraph cannot confirm the contracting party for the two new LNG carriers ordered by Alpha Gas.

Athens-based Alpha Gas said the expansion of its fleet with the two new LNG ordered vessels reinforces its position as a ‘committed and forward‑looking player in the sector.’
