Baltic Dry Index Edges Higher

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, was up for a second session on Monday, rising about 1% to 1,780 points.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, snapped a two-day decline, advancing 1.7% to 2,626 points; and the supramax index added 9 points, or 0.9%, to 1,035 points.

Meanwhile, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, remained unchanged at 1,612 points.
