Anglo-French oil and gas player Perenco has wrapped up a revitalization program at fields off the coast of Trinidad & Tobago and the installation of a recently converted mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) in Congolese waters.

While revealing the completion of its latest revitalisation program across the Teak, Samaan and Poui (TSP) fields off the southeast coast of Trinidad, Perenco explained the work, designed to simultaneously increase production and deliver more efficient and sustainable operations, entailed the electrification and the modernisation of the Teak field.

Stéphane Barc, General Manager of Perenco T&T, commented: “We are committed to sustaining these fields, which have served Trinidad and Tobago well for half a century and have the potential to continue to provide energy to the country for many years to come. The electrification at Teak reflects our expertise in maintaining mature assets and represents the latest milestones in our ongoing investment into the country.”

As part of the electrification project, a new high-voltage electrical network has been established, extending from the Macarius power hub to Teak Echo and then across all Teak satellite platforms via 28 kilometers of subsea electrical cables.

High-voltage infrastructure has been installed on the platforms, entailing nine new transformers and five new electrical shelters, which is said to enable safer and more efficient operations for the firm’s offshore teams.

As the TSP fields have been producing for decades, Perenco’s ongoing investment is seen as essential to continue meeting local energy demand and supporting economic growth.

Meanwhile, the Anglo-French player has installed the Kombi 2 platform on the Kombi-Likalala-Libondo II (KLL II) field in Congo, which is perceived to mark a key milestone in the redevelopment of the field, more than 20 years after the drilling of its last well. The project represents an investment of over $200 million.

Gregoire de Courcelles, Managing Director of Perenco Congo, emphasized: “This project is a concrete example of Perenco’s commitment to investing in high-performance, responsible, and value-creating infrastructure that promotes the sustainable development of national resources.”

Designed as a new-generation infrastructure, Kombi 2 is deemed to play a central role in the field’s future performance, thanks to improved water and effluent treatment, increased associated gas recovery, and 8 MW of electricity generated by its two gas turbines, thereby ensuring greater energy autonomy for operations.

The platform will host a six-well drilling campaign starting in 2026, with the aim of increasing production, optimising the field’s recovery factor, and extending its life in a sustainable manner thanks to facilities adapted to current standards.

The connection work is currently underway, with commissioning scheduled for early March 2026. Dixstone carried out the conversion of a jack-up into the Kombi 2 platform at a shipyard in Vlissingen, which took three years.
