One of the most intense periods of new tanker ordering in recent years is underway, with Greek owners playing a leading role globally. George Prokopiou’s Dynacom Tankers Management is expanding its tanker shipbuilding program with a new order for nine 158,000-dwt crude oil tankers at Hengli Shipbuilding.

Guangdong Songfa Ceramics Co., Ltd. (Songfa) has revealed the signing of two shipbuilding contracts for ten 158,000-dwt crude oil tankers with its subsidiary, Hengli Shipbuilding (Dalian) Co., Ltd. valued at between $700m and $1bn.

In a Shanghai stock exchange announcement on Feb. 10, the company confirmed that its subsidiary Hengli Shipbuilding signed contracts with Dynacom Tankers Management for nine ships. The remaining vessel was taken by what the filing described as a well-known European shipowner. The shipbuilder didn’t disclose details about the shipowner. It only mentioned that it has “good credit standing” and the “ability to perform the contract.”

The announcement for the nine ships disclosed that the counterparty is a company under Greece’s Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd.

Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd. (DTM) is a shipping enterprise with significant influence in the maritime sector, specializing in the operation of tankers carrying crude oil and clean oil products.

This marks another shipbuilding contract announced by Guangdong Songfa Ceramics Co., Ltd. (Songfa) since the start of 2026. Previously, on January 17, the company confirmed that its subsidiary Hengli Shipbuilding signed contracts for four 306,000-dwt very large crude carriers (VLCCs) and one LR2 crude oil/product tanker.

In a Shanghai stock exchange announcement on Jan. 17, the company confirmed that its subsidiary Hengli Shipbuilding signed the contracts on January 15, 2026.

The deliveries for the four 306,000-dwt VLCCs, it said, will be made successively in the second half of 2028.

The announcement disclosed that the counterparty is a company under Greece’s Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd.

The 114,000-dwt LR2 crude oil/product tanker has been contracted with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2027. The counterparty to this contract is a well-known European shipowner.
