India’s The Great Eastern Shipping has continued its steady fleet renewal drive, lining up another secondhand bulker as it reshapes its portfolio.
The Mumbai-listed owner said it has contracted to buy a 2014-built Japanese kamsarmax, without providing any further details about the deal, except that the 81,094 dwt ship should join the fleet in the first quarter of FY27.
The bulker fleet expansion, which fits into the company’s broader renewal strategy that has seen older ships exit while younger tonnage comes in, will be financed entirely through internal funds.
Since December, Great Eastern has been linked to the sale of two 2011-built kamsarmaxes, alongside other sale-and-purchase activity in the tanker and VLGC markets.
Great Eastern’s owned fleet currently stands at 41 vessels — 27 tankers, including crude, product and LPG carriers, and 14 dry bulk ships, of which nine kamsarmaxes. The company has also contracted to sell the very large gas carrier Jag Vishnu, with that transaction expected to complete in the fourth quarter of FY26.
