
Exail, a subsidiary of Exail Technologies, has been hired to provide its long baseline (LBL) subsea positioning systems for two undisclosed deepwater energy projects off the coasts of Brazil and Angola.
Thanks to new contract awards, the firm is supplying over 70 acoustic transponders and integrated navigation suites for two major deepwater energy projects in Brazil and Angola. These deals are said to mark a significant milestone in the global adoption of Exail’s LBL subsea positioning technology, supporting subsea construction, offshore infrastructure installation, and survey operations in complex environments at depths of up to 4,000 meters.

The company is supplying a network of 56 Canopus acoustic transponders paired with Rovins inertial navigation systems (INS) for an ultra-deepwater gas development in Brazil. This installation is described to establish the primary subsea positioning reference required for the field’s critical construction phases.
The firm’s technology is supporting the expansion of existing subsea infrastructure on a mature offshore oil field in Angola. By interfacing Ramses acoustic transceivers with remotely operated vehicle (ROV) inertial navigation suites, the system is perceived to enable the precise and safe integration of new pipelines and subsea structures within the established field architecture.
Exail claims that it provides its range-aided LBL positioning solution across both projects, which combines acoustic LBL positioning with high-performance inertial navigation, allowing for a sparse seabed transponder layout and a calibration process 50% faster than conventional methods.
As it requires fewer transponders, this sparse configuration is interpreted to significantly reduce equipment requirements and vessel time, while maintaining decimetric positioning accuracy to enable a more efficient and reliable subsea positioning framework for ultra-deepwater construction and bathymetric survey operations.
The latest large-scale delivery is seen to build on the firm’s extensive track record in subsea positioning projects worldwide, reinforcing its role as a trusted technology partner for global offshore energy developments.
