WATCH: DeepOcean prepares Glomar vessel for survey and IMR work

DeepOcean has completed the modifications and upgrade of a 2009-built Glomar Offshore vessel, now mobilized and ready for its first assignment.

The survey and inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) vessel Glomar Supporter, the newest addition to DeepOcean’s fleet following a time charter agreement with Glomar Offshore, underwent modifications at the company’s subsea base, after which it was mobilized.

An extensive rebuild and refurbishment of the vessel was carried out in 2021, with this latest upgrade comprising a work-class remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and permanently installed survey equipment.

The 60-meter vessel is capable of executing visual and multibeam echosounder (MBES) inspections, boulder clearance and construction support, in addition to hull-mounted and towed survey operations. As the smallest manned vessel in its fleet, DeepOcean said that Glomar Supporter offers a flexible platform for inspection, survey and light ROV intervention, supporting both oil & gas and offshore renewables projects.

Following mobilization, the vessel will provide ROV support in the West of Shetland region as its inaugural DeepOcean assignment.
