Container vessel struck by ‘projectile’ near Jebel Ali | Ship Accidents

Container vessel, Source Blessing, was struck by an unknown projectile while sailing approximately 35 nautical miles north of Jebel Ali, UAE, on March 12, according to reports from claims specialist WK Webster.

The 40478-dwt ship (2003-built) sustained a fire in the engine room, which was subsequently brought under control and has now been extinguished.

There are currently no reports of injuries or casualties.

Additional information from UKMTO indicated that the container ship was struck by unknown projectile causing a small fire onboard.

All crew members were reported safe, and authorities said no environmental pollution has been detected.

According to United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reports from the master, the incident took place 35 nautical miles north of Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates.

The UKMTO urged vessels in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity while authorities continue to investigate.

UKMTO didn’t disclose the name of the vessel in its report on Thursday.
