Brazilian oil and gas company PRIO, formerly known as PetroRio, has confirmed its timeline for the start-up of production from two remaining wells at a field in the Campos basin located off the coast of Brazil.

PRIO has revealed that the first producing well of the Wahoo field reached stabilized production of 12,000 barrels of oil per day, days after it came on stream following the operating license from the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Natural Renewable Resources (Ibama) and months after the approval for the installation of the field production development system and the interconnection of wells to the FPSO Valente, formerly known as Frade.

The Brazilian company underlines that the schedule for bringing the remaining wells online remains as planned, with the expectation that the field will reach production of 40,000 barrels per day by the end of April. The start of production at Wahoo is perceived to represent a milestone in the firm’s growth strategy.

Located in the pre-salt layer of the Campos Basin, the field was developed through a subsea tie-back of approximately 35 kilometers to the FPSO Valente, optimizing the use of existing infrastructure.

The update on the Wahoo’s production level comes after Ibama issued an amendment to the drilling license for the Frade field, authorizing PRIO to drill up to 14 new wells.
