Skarv Shipping takes delivery of first newbuild Peak Skarv 1 | Shipyard news

Bergen-based Skarv Shipping Solutions AS, mutually owned by Norwegian shipping companies Peak CSL Group AS and Grieg Edge, announced in a post on LinkedIn that its first vessel, the Peak Skarv 1, was delivered on Monday in China.

The ship is the first of a class of four vessels with a dwt of 7900, a LOA of 108.2 meters, and a beam of 18.1 meters. The captain and his crew raised the Norwegian flag at the stern of the vessel upon completion of the vessel’s registry under the Norwegian/NIS flag.

The newbuild will be trading mainly in the North European shortsea market.

The ships, designed by LMG Marin, feature an optimized engine ready for ammonia or methanol, batteries, a shore-power system, peak shaving with a dynamic propeller drive system, and a high-voltage switchboard prepared for future green power production, such as fuel cell technologies and increased battery capacity.

“These ships are far more climate-friendly than what we see in the short-sea market in Europe today, with a very low fuel consumption. They are not what we imagine is the final climate solution for shipping, but they are a giant step in the right direction,” said chief executive officer of Skarv Shipping Solutions AS Jan Øivind Svardal.
