Sea Glory enters the cape segment with newcastlemax buy

A fresh pattern has emerged in the opening months of 2026, with several Chinese owners branching into the capesize arena through first-time newcastlemax acquisitions—big-ticket bulker buys likely to trade only for a few years before heading to the breakers.

The latest entrant is Sea Glory. VesselsValue shows the company, better known in the chemical trades with a handful of 12,000 dwt tankers of similar vintage, as the new owner of the scrubber-fitted Cape Kensington, a 203,500 dwt bulker built at CSBC Kaohsiung in 2006. The ship has emerged as sold by Greek owner Cape Shipping for $26m.

Other Chinese owners have recently added tonnage of this size and age group, including Maple Leaf Shipping and Zhejiang Shipping Group.
