TotalEnergies EP Congo, a subsidiary of France’s energy giant TotalEnergies, has made a new hydrocarbon discovery off the coast of Congo, Africa.
TotalEnergies’ hydrocarbon discovery on the Moho license offshore Congo follows the drilling of the MHNM-6 NFW exploration well, targeting the Moho G structure.
The French player claims that the well encountered a hydrocarbon column of approximately 160 meters in good-quality Albian reservoirs.
According to the company, an extensive data acquisition and sampling campaign was carried out to support the subsurface interpretation and future development.
Nicola Mavilla, Senior Vice-President Exploration at TotalEnergies, commented: “This new discovery on the Moho license benefits from its proximity to existing production infrastructure, allowing a short cycle, cost effective tie-back development.
“By leveraging our technical expertise and existing infrastructure, we are creating the conditions for future value‑accretive production for the company.”
The Moho G discovery and those previously made on the nearby Moho F structure, perceived to represent recoverable resources estimated at close to 100 million barrels, are planned to be developed as a tie-back to the existing Moho facilities.
TotalEnergies EP Congo is the operator of the Moho license with a 63.5% participation, alongside Trident Energy (21.5%) and the Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC, 15%).
The operator elaborates that the existing production facilities include two floating production units (FPUs), Alima and Likouf, enabling a current output of around 90 kboe/d (100%).
Located 80 kilometers off the coast of Pointe Noire, Moho is a deep offshore field where production increased significantly in 2017 with the startup of the Moho Nord project.
This comes days after TotalEnergies wrapped up the merger between its UK North Sea upstream business and NEO NEXT, creating what it sees as the largest independent oil and gas producer in the UK.
