The first transshipment cargo vessel of May has anchored at Gwadar Port, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, announced on Tuesday.
The minister said that the vessel, MV Shu Long, was carrying 16,077 metric tons of cargo.
“Due to the current situation in the region, the vessel was redirected towards Gwadar,” the minister added.
He said that the berthing of the vessel and the cargo handling process were progressing swiftly.
“Gwadar Port is increasingly gaining a key position among alternative trade routes,” Chaudhary said, noting that four transshipment vessels were recorded to have arrived at the port during April.
He further stated that in light of the regional maritime situation, Gwadar’s strategic importance is continuously increasing, and the port is becoming a reliable hub for global trade.
