The Port of Long Beach, The Wonderful Company and Lincoln Transportation Services Monday signed a memorandum of understanding supporting development of the world’s first port-powered Green Truck Corridor connecting Long Beach with the Central Valley to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gases on one of the nation’s busiest truck routes for global trade.

Port CEO Dr. Noel Hacegaba joined Jose Cardenas, CEO of Lincoln Transportation Services, and Joe Vargas, President of Wonderful Real Estate Development, to officially sign the MOU establishing a Green Truck Corridor that connects the heart of the nation’s agriculture production to its largest port complex and unites two major economic engines – the Port of Long Beach, which moves more than $300 billion of goods annually, and the $40 billion agriculture industry in California’s Central Valley.

“By launching the world’s first port-powered Green Truck Corridor, the Port of Long Beach continues to demonstrate that we can advance our economy and reduce our emissions at the same time,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “This represents yet another example of how Long Beach is leading the way by fostering innovation in partnership with private industry in our city and across the region.”

The signing ceremony took place shortly after the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners voted unanimously to authorize the MOU.

“I want to thank Lincoln Transportation Services and The Wonderful Company for their participation in the Port’s first corridor dedicated to green trucks,” said Long Beach Harbor Commission President Frank Colonna. “Our industry partners have always been key to our success in improving the environment – and this is another great example of that.”

The MOU outlines a framework for collaboration and future development, reflecting a shared, early-stage effort to advance a more coordinated model for goods movement, connecting port operations, inland logistics capacity, and emerging zero-emissions trucking opportunities in a planned system designed to improve efficiency over time. Currently, more than 300,000 TEUs of imports and exports flow between the San Pedro Bay ports complex and the southern Central Valley each year.

The Wonderful Logistics Center (WLC) is a 2,000-acre master-planned logistics center located along the BNSF Railway main line in Shafter, a city located in central Kern County about 150 miles from the Port of Long Beach. WLC is home to tenants from multiple Fortune 50 U.S. companies and provides a critical inland connection between California’s ports and businesses across the Western United States.

Lincoln will serve as the corridor’s inaugural lead truck ambassador. The Rancho Dominguez-based transportation company, which has ordered 300 Tesla Semi electric trucks, expects its first 50 to 70 trucks to arrive in June. Lincoln’s affiliated company, Voltz, is also in the process of manufacturing 100 new Voltz trucks to be delivered by Q3 2027.

“By collaborating with The Wonderful Company and Lincoln Transportation Services to launch this first-of-its-kind Green Truck Corridor, we are accelerating the deployment of clean trucks on one of the nation’s busiest inland trade routes,” Hacegaba said. “This innovative partnership builds on our work to decarbonize the trans-Pacific through our pioneering green shipping corridors by making the inland supply chain more efficient and sustainable. We are creating a cleaner supply chain as we keep the American economy moving.”

Hacegaba announced plans to establish the Port’s first Green Truck Corridor at his inaugural State of the Port Address in January. The corridor is part of the Port of Long Beach’s broader efforts to become the world’s first zero-emissions seaport and will include the most advanced rapid charge facilities for EV trucks at the corridor’s endpoints in the Port of Long Beach and Shafter. The Port currently has 102 charging stations on site – the most of any port in the U.S., with 92 more coming on line later this year.
