Baltic Dry Index Down for 3rd Day

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was down for the third session on Tuesday, falling about 1.2% to an over one-week low of 3,054 points, amid broad-based weakness across vessel segments.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, decreased by 1.3% to 4,949 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell by 2.1% to 2,459 points.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index edged down by 0.1% to 1,568 points.
