New Fortress Energy charters FSRU for LNG terminal in Egypt

US-based LNG player New Fortress Energy has executed a five-year agreement for the deployment of the 138,250 cu m Energos Winter FSRU with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).

The unit, owned by New Fortress subsidiary Energos Infrastructure, will operate at EGAS’ LNG import terminal in Damietta. This is the company’s second FSRU that is set to be stationed in Egypt over the summer. It will join the Energos Eskimo as early as August of this year.

The 2014-built 160,000 cu m Energos Eskimo will be deployed at EGAS’ LNG import terminal at Ain Sokhna for the next 10 years.

“Under this agreement, NFE’s second FSRU, Energos Winter, will provide regasification services at the Damietta terminal, contributing to the security of natural gas supply for the Arab Republic of Egypt over the next five years,” said Yasseen Mohamed, executive managing director of EGAS.

The company also has the 2021-built 174,000 cu m Energos Power already stationed in the country since late May. The unit was sent to Egypt after its contract with Deutsche ReGas was cancelled in February. Egypt has four units in total, with the country’s first FSRU working in the country since 2024.
