Evergreen, Taiwan’s largest liner, has suffered two substantial container-loss incidents in South America within the span of a week.

On August 1, the 8,500 teu Ever Lunar reportedly lost about 50 containers overboard while anchored off Callao, Peru. The vessel experienced sudden severe rolling, causing stern stacks to collapse into the bay. This prompted a temporary closure of Callao maritime operations with DP World and APM Terminals suspending activities. Peru’s National Port Authority swiftly deployed patrol craft Costa Sama and Río Chira, along with tugboats Ram Vigo and Tiamat, to secure and assist recovery operations. Authorities confirmed the lost cargo was non‑hazardous. The port reopened by mid‑afternoon the same day.

There are unconfirmed reports that the Ever Lunar was alongside, either working, or preparing to work, cargo. It was then ordered out of the harbour due to the tsunami warning issued on Friday, without all containers being secured.

On July 29, Ever Feat, a 12,100 teu vessel, suffered a stack collapse in rough seas between Brazil and Uruguay, losing or damaging 30 to 40 containers. Some boxes reportedly carried fertilizer, requiring hazardous‑cargo precautions. The vessel berthed safely in Montevideo, where local authorities and salvage teams began cargo assessment and removal.
