‘Is back again’: Atlantica Shipping re-enters dry bulk sector | Dry bulk shipping news

The Norwegian shipping company Atlantica Shipping AS signalled its re-entrance into the dry bulk sector after the delivery of a kamsarmax in January.

The shipowner announced via social media that the 2011-built kamsarmax Atlantica Star was handed over to the company on January 23.

“After selling our last 3 supramaxes in second half 2024, we are back in dry bulk, and are pleased to inform that we have taken delivery of the 2011-built kamsarmax Atlantica Star on January 23,” the owner stated in its post.

The vessel will be under technical management by Greek bulker specialist A.M Nomikos.

Earlier this year, the company delivered the boxship Atlantica Power to its new owners. Previously, the company sold its last two 2009-built dry bulk vessels signalling its departure from the dry bulk sector.

The first vessel Paro was bought in February 2021 whilst the second vessel Atlantica Sun was bought in April 2023.

“Both Mitsui 56 built 2009. The vessels and their crew have performed excellent during the entire period,” Atlantica Shipping stated.

The vessels were under the technical management of A.M Nomikos, and traded on TC`s and in the Aquarius Pool operated by A.M Nomikos.

“These were the last of our dry bulk vessels,” the company added one year ago, leaving open the possibility to return to the sector with the message: “We will be back.”

Oslo-based Atlantica Shipping AS was established in January 1997 and currently has eight offshore vessels in its portfolio. In accordance with the data on its website, Atlantica Shipping has in its fleet portfolio eight vessels in the offshore sector (platform supply vessels). The vessels’ employment is mainly time charter.

Atlantica is owned by the management, local investors and A. M. Nomikos. The company started as an operator of vessels, but has evolved into being a shipowner and manager.
