Latsco firms up boxship brace at Huangpu Wenchong

Greece’s Latsco Shipping has firmed up its move into container shipping, exercising options for two additional 1,900 teu vessels at China’s Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.

According to brokers, the Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis-led owner has confirmed the extra pair, with delivery scheduled for June and August 2028.

The decision follows an initial order placed earlier this year for two firm units, reportedly priced at around $31m each, with options attached for further ships.

The Latsis family-controlled outfit has been diversifying beyond its traditional tanker and gas carrier focus. Latsco first entered the boxship segment in 2022 with another pair of 1,900 teu newbuildings—originally ordered by Japan’s Shoei Kisen at Imabari Shipyard.

Alongside its containership expansion, the owner has remained active in the product tanker market, with up to four 50,000 dwt MRs recently contracted at K Shipbuilding in South Korea.
