Peter Tirschwell leaves JOC after 34 years to go independent

One of the most famous names in container shipping is embarking on a new chapter in his career.

Peter Tirschwell has stepped down from his role guiding the Journal of Commerce (JOC) after 34 years with the American publication to become an independent shipping journalist.

Tirshwell founded TPM 25 years ago in Long Beach, California, an event that has become container shipping’s single largest annual gathering, attracting thousands of delegates from across the world.

“This has been nothing short of a wildly fulfilling and adventurous ride, a career I could only have dreamed of when I first walked into the JOC newsroom at 2 World Trade Center as a cub reporter in 1992,” Tirschwell stated in a post on LinkedIn.
