The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, snapped a four-day winning streak on Thursday, falling about 0.7% to 2,002 points, amid lower demand for the bigger-size segment.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, declined 2.4% to 3,131 points.
On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 2.1% to 1,716 points; and the supramax index added 14 points, or 1.3%, to 1,062 points.
