The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, halted a four-day winning streak on Thursday, dropping 2.3% to 1,761 points, amid lower demand for larger vessels.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, slipped 5.2% to 2,589 points, after four consecutive sessions of advances.
On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 0.5% to 1,614 points; and the supramax index increased 23 points to its highest since January 5 at 1,019 points.
