Baltic Dry Index Ticks Up, Books Weekly Gain

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, edged up 0.1% to 1,762 points on Friday, after decreasing by more than 2% in the prior day.

The smaller supramax index added 7 points to 1,026 points, supporting the main index.

Meanwhile, the capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, was down for a second day, falling 0.2% to 2,583 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, decreased by 0.1% to 1,612 points.

The benchmark index posted a weekly gain of 12.4%.
