Chinese-built capes in demand – Splash247

Capesize transactions are ticking in at a steady pace, and Chinese-built bulkers are again selling at a rapid rate.

VesselsValue lists the last six cape transactions, all of which are China-built. The latest China-built vessel reported sold is a 16-year-old, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding-built Cape Aqua, formerly Aquaproud, sold by Primebulk of Greece for a very firm $24m to undisclosed buyers.

Other sales in the works include the eight-year-old capesize Herun Zhejiang – also built at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding – sold for $48m while the 14-year-old Mineral Brussel  – built at New Times Shipbuilding – is noted as changing hands for $24.5m.

Capes have been enjoying an unseasonably strong August to date, with spot rates in excess of $25,000 a day.
