Turkey’s Ciner Group has moved again in the newbuilding market, lining up six ultramax bulk carriers at China’s New Dayang Shipbuilding.
The 64,000 dwt vessels are priced at about $34m each, putting the deal at roughly $204m. Deliveries are expected in batches between the fourth quarter of 2028 and early 2029.
The order comes through the group’s shipping arm, led by Vasileios Papakalodoukas, and continues a long-running relationship with the SUMEC-controlled yard, where Ciner has already placed multiple ultramax contracts.
Market sources say the latest deal takes Ciner’s tally at New Dayang to at least 14 ultramaxes.
The Istanbul-based group has been one of the most active bulker owners in the yard market in recent years. Across segments, it has booked up to 40 vessels in less than four years, building out a sizeable forward orderbook.
Alongside its ultramax programme, Ciner has diversified its orders. The company has container ships on order — including 3,100 teu units booked in late 2025 — and larger bulkers under construction at Hengli Shipbuilding in Dalian, where 82,000 dwt ships are due to start delivering from March 2027.
