Diana scores rate boost with NYK bulker deal

Diana Shipping has secured improved employment for one of its post-panamax bulkers, fixing the 87,146 dwt Phaidra to Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK).

The New York-listed Greek owner said the 2013-built ship has been chartered at $14,500 per day, minus a 5% commission, for a period running from a minimum of February 20, 2027, with options until April 20, 2027. The charter is scheduled to commence on February 24, 2026.

The new fixture represents a clear step up from the vessel’s current employment. The unit is presently earning $9,750 per day, also minus 5% commission under contract with SwissMarine.

Diana said the contract is expected to generate about $5.18m in gross revenue over the minimum charter period.

The deal marks the company’s fourth reported charter agreement this year and follows the recent extension secured for the post-panamax Amphitrite, which remains on hire to operator Cobelfret.
