Egypt’s National Navigation back in China for more kamsarmax newbuilds

Egypt’s National Navigation Company (NNC) is continuing its fleet expansion with a fresh order for two additional kamsarmax bulk carriers.

The state-owned, Cairo-based owner has commissioned Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry to build and deliver the 82,000 dwt units in September and November of 2028.

This marks the second deal with Jiangsu Hantong in just over a year. In April 2024, NNC ordered two similar ships from the same yard, slated for delivery in 2026. Financial terms for both contracts remain undisclosed.

Founded in 1981, NNC operates a fleet of 14 vessels under the Egyptian flag, including 13 bulk carriers and one 3,000 teu containership. With the latest order, the company has added a total of six new vessels in the past three years.

The move aligns with Egypt’s plans to rejuvenate its fleet in the next few years and expand the number of vessels of its affiliated companies to more than 30 by 2030.
