Canadian dry bulk owner Fednav has signed a deal with agribusiness firm V6 Agronomy to support the movement of phosphate cargoes into the Great Lakes.
The agreement will see the Montreal-based outfit handle shipments from Europe and North Africa into the Port of Johnstown, forming part of V6’s supply chain for fertiliser distribution across Canada.
The deal sets out a long-term framework for cooperation, with both sides focusing on reliability, efficiency and forward planning as they scale up volumes into the region, Fednav said.
The Paul Pathy-led company, which runs a fleet of around 130 vessels and moves more than 30m tonnes of cargo annually, added that the partnership builds on its experience operating in the St Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes, where seasonal constraints and draft limits require specialised tonnage and operational planning.
V6 is developing a broader agri-logistics platform, combining marine, rail and terminal infrastructure to support fertiliser supply and distribution across Canada. The Fednav tie-up provides a dedicated marine link as it expands its logistics network.
