MOL launches global shipmanagement arm

Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) is consolidating its shipmanagement businesses under a single brand and location, aiming to streamline operations and enhance service quality across all vessel types.

The Tokyo-headquartered shipping giant has renamed its Singapore-based LNG management arm, MOL LNG Ship Management, to MOL Global Ship Management (MOLGSM). The move marks the beginning of an internal integration process that will see MOL’s previously segmented in-house ship management functions—currently split by vessel type—combined under one structure.

MOLGSM will eventually oversee more than 200 ships, including LNG carriers, bulk carriers, and tankers.

“By integrating in-house ship management companies that have been divided by ship type, MOLGSM will be able to share best practices across different ship types and strengthening capabilities in adopting new technologies, such as environmentally friendly ship management,” MOL said in a statement.

The restructuring is aimed at increasing efficiency through shared systems, standardized operations, and cross-functional staff deployment. MOL added that the unified setup will also improve IT integration and give employees more diverse career paths, especially in areas tied to decarbonization and next-generation vessel management.
