Capesize bulkers are back on top in this week’s broker reports as prices continue to firm, with Chinese and Greek buyers dominating acquisitions in early March.
While momentum in recent weeks has been concentrated in the kamsarmax and supramax segments — particularly early-2010s-built tonnage — attention is now shifting back to the capesize sector, with both Greek and Chinese accounts actively bidding for vessels.
Among the reported deals, the 177,000 dwt capesize Lucky Carina (built 2007 at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding) has been sold to Chinese buyers for $23.8m.
The price represents a significant increase over the $20.5m achieved by her identical sister vessel, Antonis Angelicoussis, in December 2025.
The buyer of Lucky Carina has now emerged as Navitas Compania Maritima, a low-profile Greek bulker owner. The vessel has reportedly been renamed Thanksgiving and has become the company’s second capesize, expanding its modest but growing bulker fleet.
Market sources also report that several Korean- and Japanese-built capesize vessels have changed hands this month, underlining renewed activity in the large bulk carrier segment.
