National Fortune Shipping Group, a company incorporated in China on April 2, 2025, appears to be moving quickly to assemble a capesize platform, naming its first vessels NF Fortune and NF Future — signalling clear growth ambitions from the outset.
According to shipbroking sources, the company made its opening move in late January, tabling $18.5m each for two Japanese-built capesizes: the 177,200 dwt Mikata, built at Namura Shipbuilding in 2005, and the slightly larger 185,900 dwt Ally, built at Kawasaki Heavy Industries the same year.
The pair were first reported sold at $18.5m apiece, basis en bloc, by Turkish interests linked to Klan Gemi Yonetimi at the end of January, with buyers undisclosed at the time.
At around 20 years of age, the acquisition places National Fortune firmly in the vintage cape segment — a space that has seen renewed liquidity amid firm earnings and a tightening supply outlook.
