West Africa Gas inks VLAC orders in South Korea

West Africa Gas is expanding its fleet with a pair of very large ammonia carrier (VLAC) newbuilds in South Korea.

The joint venture between Nigeria’s state oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and Sahara Group has contracted 93,000 cu m vessels at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries with delivery from the flagship Ulsan yard scheduled for the second half of 2028, according to Clarksons.

No price was listed for the LPG dual-fuel capable newbuilds that will be built to carry LPG or ammonia.

Prior to this latest order, the joint venture established in 2013 had commissioned multiple mid-sized gas carriers for regional service, focusing largely on coastal and West African routes.

The company currently counts two 23,000 cu m and another pair of 38,000 cu m LPG vessels in its fleet. All the four vessels were built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.
