Azerbaijan cuts gas exports 4.7% in H1

Azerbaijan reduced gas exports 4.7% year-on-year to 12.1 billion cubic meters in January-July, the Energy Ministry said, quoting preliminary data, as per Interfax.It said 6.1 bcm of Azerbaijani gas, or 50% of total exports, were delivered to Europe, 4.9 bcm or 41% to Turkey, including 2.9 bcm via the TANAP gas pipeline, and 1.1 bcm or 9% to Georgia.Azerbaijan exported 12.7 bcm of gas in H1 2024, including 6.4 bcm to Europe, 5 bcm to Turkey and 1.3 bcm to Georgia. The exports to Europe also fell 4.7% year-on-year in H1 2025, and exports to Georgia and Turkey fell 15.4% and 2%, respectively.Azerbaijan started to export gas to Europe on December 31, 2022.Azerbaijan has contracts to supply gas to 11 countries in Europe, namely Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, North Macedonia, and Germany.

The annual volume should gradually increase to 15 terawatt-hours (TWh), which is around 1.5 billion cubic meters, specifically including long-term contracts with a fixed supply volume to Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria, and with Germany’s Securing Energy for Europe GmbH (SEFE) for 10 years. Contracts without exact purchase volumes have been signed with the remaining countries.Azerbaijan also exports gas to Turkey via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP), and to Georgia via the SCP and Gazimagomed-Gazakh pipeline.It soon plans to start supplying Azerbaijani gas to Syria based on a memorandum signed on July 12, 2025.mrchub.com
