Chinese grain group to invest $1.5 billion in Kazakh processing project, ministry says

China’s Hopefull Grain & Oil Group plans to invest $1.5 billion in a grain processing project in Kazakhstan’s northern Akmola region, the country’s agriculture ministry said on Wednesday.

The plant is planned to produce citric acid, glucose-fructose syrups, bioethanol, feed concentrates, and protein concentrates.

The ministry did not provide a timeline for the project.

Kazakhstan, Central Asia’s largest grain producer, completed its grain harvest in early November, gathering a record 27.1 million tons.

It traditionally supplies grain to neighboring Central Asian countries, as well as to Iran and Afghanistan.
