Investment funds cut wheat positions on Euronext exchange

Investment funds and financial institutions reduced their net long position in Euronext milling wheat futures and options during the week ending May 7, according to data released by the exchange on Wednesday.

Non-commercial participants decreased their net long position to 54,898 contracts from 71,271 contracts in the previous week, the data showed.

Commercial participants, which include traders and processors, reduced their net short position to 55,735 contracts from 59,533 contracts a week earlier.

Commercial short positions represented 73% of total short positions, while commercial long positions made up 40% of total long positions. Non-commercial short positions accounted for 27% of total short positions, and non-commercial net long positions represented 60% of total longs.

In rapeseed futures and options, non-commercial market participants reduced their net long position to 17,813 contracts from 60,789 contracts a week earlier.

Commercial participants switched to a net long position of 3,587 contracts in rapeseed from a short position of 66,806 contracts in the prior week.
