Ukraine to increase gas imports on Monday

Ukraine will increase natural gas imports to almost 24 million cubic meters (mcm) on Monday from about 22 mcm on Sunday, the national gas transmission operator said.

Ukraine, which has to collect at least 13 billion cubic metres of gas in its underground storage facilities for the winter heating season, has been importing about 22 mcm of gas per day in recent weeks.

The operator data showed that Ukraine would increase gas imports from Poland to 10.4 mcm on Monday from 7.7 mcm on Sunday. It will also import gas from Hungary and Slovakia.

Ukraine has faced a serious gas shortage since Russian missile strikes this year significantly reduced domestic production.
Russia has stepped up attacks on Ukrainian gas production and import infrastructure in recent weeks despite efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the conflict.
