DP World Antwerp Gateway has achieved the highest annual container volume in its history, handling 2,470,700 TEU in 2025, an 8.6% increase compared to the previous year.

December alone saw 224,700 TEU handled at the terminal, 14% more than the same month last year and the second-highest month on record, surpassed only by March 2025’s record 233,000 TEU.

The performance reinforces the terminal’s position as one of Europe’s leading deep‑sea container hubs. The record was achieved in a year marked by economic uncertainty and operational volatility across global shipping networks, including congestion at container terminals and an unprecedented level of industrial action in parts of the supply chain.

“October 2025 marked two decades of Antwerp Gateway, a period defined by innovation, partnership and continuous growth. The record-breaking performance achieved in 2025 sets a strong foundation for the terminal’s next chapter,” Cioran added.

DP World Antwerp Gateway operates around the clock, 24/7, managing cargo flows for global and regional supply chains on a massive scale. Each shift is supported by approximately 120 dock workers, excluding support teams.

Key operational capabilities include:

15 quay cranes
63 straddle carriers, including 55 hybrid units
23 automated stacking cranes (ASCs) modules, expanding to 27 by 2026
3 large berths and 2 feeder/barge berths
Support for 20 weekly services
16m draft, enabling accommodation of the world’s largest vessels

A major expansion programme – launched in 2020 and completing in 2026 – is transforming the terminal while maintaining 100% operational continuity, even through challenges such as the pandemic. Recent upgrades include:

Retrofitting ASC modules to increase stacking density, boosting yard capacity by 30%
Expansion of automated operations and digital optimisation tools
Continued rollout of hybrid equipment to reduce emissions
First-in-region night operations and incentivised night logistics, improving distribution flows and reducing congestion
