IAPH’s Data Collaboration Committee (DCC), in collaboration with UNCTAD TrainForTrade (TFT), has completed preliminary work on a new Cybersecurity Awareness Game designed specifically for port professionals. The digital game focuses on how ports can manage risk while integrating powerful existing and emerging technologies – including artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and robotics – into their industrial control systems. Aimed at port professionals at every level of seniority (not just digital experts), the game builds on IAPH’s pioneering Cyber Resilience Guidelines for Emerging Technologies in the Maritime Supply Chain, launched in September.
The flexible, tailorable training delivered by the game underscores that – while they can optimise efficiency, reduce human error, and enable 24/7 operations – these powerful technologies can also introduce critical vulnerabilities if mismanaged. Players must make choices in the face of real-world risk scenarios at the fictional ‘Quantum Terminal’ where emerging technologies are in place to manage critical infrastructure, such as cargo handling and terminal management. IAPH and UNCTAD TFT continue to collaborate with APEC on the highly successful Port Endeavor business game
