Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a member of MMC Group, successfully handled up to 1,800 truck movements daily throughout 2025, marking its highest-ever level of landside traffic, while maintaining smooth operations and minimal congestion despite the heavy volume and during peak periods.
According to Johor Port, total haulier movements reached 639,011 for the year, representing a 7 per cent increase compared to 2024, as container throughput climbed to a record 1.08 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), the highest ever achieved by Johor Port.
The sustained traffic flow, averaging about 1,750 trucks daily, was managed without major disruption, reflecting improvements in gate operations, coordination with haulage operators and overall terminal efficiency.
Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Chairman of Johor Port said, “Managing such high daily truck volumes without significant congestion is a key enabler of Johor Port’s growth and our port performance record in 2025. It allows us to support higher vessel calls, ensure faster cargo evacuation and ultimately strengthen our role as a reliable gateway for regional trade.”
Industry observers note that landside congestion is a common challenge at busy ports, particularly during periods of rising trade volumes. Johor Port’s experience last year demonstrated the importance of close coordination between port operators and hauliers to ensure smooth cargo movement.
Much of the landside traffic was supported by haulage operators under the Association of Malaysian Hauliers (AMH), whose members account for the majority of truck movements into and out of the port.
Johor Port hosted an engagement session with AMH earlier this month to acknowledge the role of haulage operators in supporting daily port operations. The port also distributed appreciation packs to haulier drivers entering the port on Monday as a gesture of thanks.
Chief Executive Officer Md Derick Basir said the sustained high volume of daily truck movements reflected confidence in Johor Port’s operations.
“Handling close to 1,800 trucks a day is a strong indicator of trust from the logistics community. What is equally important is that these movements were managed smoothly, with minimal congestion, even at peak periods. This reflects the collective efforts of our teams and the close cooperation with haulage operators,” he said.
Tn Hj Dzulfariqh Abdul Manap, Vice President of the Association of Malaysian Hauliers (AMH), added “This achievement of 1.08 million TEUs is a testament to what can be accomplished when the Port and the landside logistics providers operate in total synergy. On behalf of AMH, we appreciate Johor Port’s initiative and their forward-thinking approach to digitalisation. These Systems will significantly improve the daily operations and turnaround times for our haulage drivers”.
Johor Port’s operational performance was supported by continued investments in equipment and infrastructure, including the commissioning of two new quay cranes in September 2025 and the deployment of additional container reach stackers to improve yard and rail operations.
The port is also progressing with further upgrades, including container yard rehabilitation works and expansion of reefer facilities, to support future growth.
Looking ahead, Johor Port is preparing to implement automated gate and weighbridge systems by the end of 2026, aimed at further reducing truck processing times and improving traffic flow as volumes continue to rise.
Johor Port expects landside efficiency to remain a key focus as it positions itself to support increased trade activity arising from developments such as the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone.
